Chiapas El Triunfo Fair Trade, Organic,Shade Grown

The coffee that we currently are marketing comes from the misty mountains of the Mexican state of Chiapas (a couple hours north of the Guatemala Border). This is a well balanced Arabica coffee with subtle undertones off chocolate and nuts. The producers come from a Co-Op that uses proceeds to protect the "El Triunfo" Biosphere reserve. Some of the coffee plantations secondary canopy are among the last refuges for some neo-tropical migrant bird species.

The Story:This shade grown coffee is produced by Finca Triunfo Verde Sociedad Civil, a fair-trade and organic certified coop located within the buffer zone of El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve. This coop was founded in 2001, and contains 262 members. Located in the highlands of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas, El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve is one of the world’s most diverse forest reserves. This reserve contains Mesoamerica’s largest continuous cloud forest, and it serves as a refuge to thousands of plant and animal species.
El Triunfo is a rare and valuable sanctuary requiring continued protection. Our importer, Cafe Imports, pays a 10 cent premium for each pound of this coffee that is to be used for the continued maintenance of El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
